EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy approach designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories.
How the Visual Effect Works
The core mechanism involves Bilateral Stimulation (BLS). In a typical therapy session, a therapist might move their fingers back and forth in front of your face, asking you to follow them with your eyes. This website replicates that visual movement digitally.
Key Concepts
Left-Right Movement: The rhythmic side-to-side eye movement helps to tax the working memory.
Processing Memories: By focusing on a difficult memory while simultaneously moving your eyes, the memory becomes less vivid and less emotionally charged.
Relaxation: Even without trauma processing, the rhythmic movement can have a calming, hypnotic effect on the nervous system.
